May 31 & June 1

May 31
On the road by 6:30 heading over to Yellowstone National Park. It’s cloudy and 58°. Strange to look up at the sky and as far as you can see is this huge black cloud that makes it look like we are under a huge dome. Pretty uneventful drive until we got to Rt 47, Mesa Falls Scenic Byway in Ashton. Nice winding back road along Warm River through Targhee National Forest in Idaho. We can see Teton Mountain Range in the distance.

Got to Yellowstone Park and saw buffalo along the road which was so cool.
We stopped and walked the boardwalk around the five major geysers. What an amazing earth we have, so incredible seeing the earth alive!

We checked into our cabin. It was really cute.  Had a double bed, sink, desk a nice heater and a shower and toilet room. It was rainy and cold so the heater was nice. We are at 7,300 feet above sea level. We ate supper in the Lodge Cafeteria then sat on the deck to watch Old Faithful. Wow!!

June 1
We got  The up and got our coffee at the Lodge then headed out along the Grand Loop to drive to the Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. It was overcast and about 40° but a beautiful drive at 7:30 in the morning. We drove along Gibbon River and stopped at Gibbon Falls. The views at the lookout to the Canyon are amazing. Yellowstone River runs through the canyon. Unfortunately it started to rain pretty hard so we had to drive on.

There was a lot of snow at this altitude- 8,000 feet above sea level. We drove over to Tower Falls but had to turn around because of the snow.

We stopped at Canyon Village to get some breakfast then drove the loop around the center of Yellowstone and by Yellowstone Lake. We crossed the Continental Divide at 8,371 feet.
A herd of Bison stopped the cars in the middle of the road which was really cool

We got something to eat at the Lodge, had a drink and watched Old Faithful. We got the pop up ready for the morning drive and off to bed....
