May 24

May 24
We were on the road by 6:45 to drive to Buckeye Tree Lodge in Three Rivers CA. It’s about a 7 hour drive. Leaving Death Valley it’s 88°. As we climb up the California side of Death Valley, heading west, is a beautiful winding road. Elevation is about 3,500 feet and temperature is around 70. The difference in colors of the mountains are incredible. Such a pretty drive out.

We could see Sierra Nevadas in the distance.

Rt 14 is loaded with solar and wind farms. The mountain range around us is Tehachapi Mountains. Beautiful sunny day 76°.
On Rt 99 there are mostly grove trees, I think Apricot, not a very pretty road. Highway is in pretty bad shape but there are beautiful Oleander bushes in white, pinks and reds, lining the center strip of the highway.

Turning off on 198 is prettier and we can see Sequoia National Forest in the distance. There are citrus trees and farms all along this route.

This mountain range seem to have more vegetation and are less rocky than the ones in Arizona and New Mexico.

We drove by pretty Lake Kaweah and arrived at Buckeye Tree Lodge to check in. We were told we wouldn’t be able to tow our camper into the park because they are working on the roads so we have to take a different route in, which is a shame because it’s just minutes from the motel. This will change our course a little for tomorrow. We decided to hang out at the pool and enjoy the beautiful weather. Our room overlooks the fast moving Kaweah River which will be a treat to listen to tonight!
We were left a basket with muffins, fruit and juice for breakfast in the morning and we have fresh ground coffee also. This motel is very quaint and clean.

Went next door to The Gateway Restaurant for dinner out side on the porch overlooking the beautiful river! Meal was very good, little expensive but good.
