May 5

We checked out of Pocahontas State Park by 8am. Headed out on Rt. 460 to head over to Blue Ridge Parkway. The road was very rural and a pretty drive. Got on Parkway near Roanoke and drove down to Mabry Mill Restaurant for lunch in Meadows Of Dan, VA. Very quaint place and food and coffee were wonderful. Drove a little further then got off on Rt 58 to head over to Warrior Creek Campground. I found the Blue Ridge Parkway very pretty but I think I expected more. I would say most of it is similar to driving through New Hampshire and Maine but some areas are breathtaking.

So about 5 miles from Willow Creek in Boomer NC we blew a tire on our trailer! Thankfully Tom is so thorough about the mechanics of this trip we have a good spare. In about 15 minuets it was fixed and we checked into the campground. Nice and quite with lots of woods all around us. I’m really liking these National Campgrounds. Decent showers and toilets, little rustic. We ordered an new tire and will pick it up at our next stop. Hanging out and just having fruit for supper because we had a descent lunch at Mabry Mill Restaurant. Middle 70’s and very comfortable. Around 4am we got some thunderstorms but by time we got up it had cleared and we had cereal, coffee and headed out by 9:15am.
